Job overview

About the role

If you are in education to make a real difference to young people’s lives, Fearnhill is for you. We are on an exciting journey with significant improvement evident across the school, growing popularity with parents and an environment for professional development that is second to none. As a warm and inclusive community transforming the lives of young people in Letchworth, we have an opportunity for a catering and food technology specialist to join us for one year as a maternity cover. An ability, or willingness to teach child development would be welcomed. We invite you to come and spend some time here; meet our students, watch innovative teaching in action and enjoy our calm and purposeful learning environment.

We welcome applications from ECTs or more experienced colleagues. We work flexibly; part-time applications will also be considered.

A message from Louise, Head of Art, Design and Technology

Thank you for your interest in this great job opportunity at our wonderful, small and nurturing school. Our students absolutely love Food Technology and Catering is so popular as a GCSE option that we have had to expand our option blocks to ensure we have space for all the keen and creative students who wish to study in our area. There will be 5 teaching groups across KS4 next year.

We have 2 fully equipped teaching kitchens, our own theory teaching room, access to a computer suite and a technician who is dedicated and passionate. As a school we provide all the students in KS3 with their ingredients and the technician manages that, making the planning and teaching of the lessons smooth and inclusive for all. We also have good links to the North Herts College Catering department with opportunities for trips and workshops.

We offer Child Development at KS4, which may be something you would be happy to teach too. We teach this as practically as possible with access to all the desired baby equipment and nursery toys, supporting all types of learners.

If the teaching of excited, studious and enthusiastic pupils in a calm and supportive educational environment is for you, please apply for this role and come and have a look around Fearnhill School.

We look forward to meeting you; please get in touch with Head’s PA Jacqui.simmonds10@fearnhill.herts.sch.uk  to arrange a visit (some costs can be covered for this), or call Liz Ellis, Headteacher, on 01462 621200 for more information. Alternatively, simply apply. We look forward to receiving your application.
