Job overview

Hampton Court House is a fast-growing independent school situated in beautiful riverside parkland between Richmond and Hampton in southwest London.

Hampton Court House has 240 pupils from Nursery through to Year 13.

Class sizes at A level are very small and our students are of a high calibre looking towards Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities.

We seek a charismatic communicator to teach in our science department. Hampton Court House is an all-through school and candidates will teach Science to Year 5 upwards and Chemistry to GCSE and Sixth Form.

We are looking for a well-qualified scientist, or newly qualified teacher, who will be able to inspire enthusiasm in our pupils and help to promote the high cultural and academic ethos of the School. All of our teachers are expected to contribute enthusiastically to the wider life of the School.

Hampton Court House School is committed to creating an environment of success for all our children through effective teaching, reinforcement of strong values and standards, and keeping the child at the centre of everything we do.  We are hugely pleased and humbled to have received the Independent Schools Council’s award of ‘Top small independent school’ this year, with 85% A*/A (9-7) at GCSE and over 50% A*/A at A-Level.  However, none of this happens without the dedication and professionalism of both staff and student alike.  At Hampton Court House, you are the deliverers of this success and will be supported completely, both personally and professionally, to achieve these life-changing outcomes.

If you would like to discuss informally further details of the post, please contact the Head of Science, Abigail Howard, by email (anh@hchnet.co.uk) or telephone (020 8614 0865).

Deadline for applications:  14th October 2018.

Interview Date: 17th October 2018.

Completed applications should be sent to Yvonne Johnson at yrj@hchnet.co.uk.

Salary – negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications.

Hampton Court House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Nestled in Bushy Park, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampton Court House is an independent co-educational day school for ages 2 – 18, educating Early Years children in our Pre-Prep School & Nursery, The Little Courtiers, to students in Year 13.

The majority of our pupils elect to stay on to complete their full education with us, enjoying great success in their GCSEs and A Levels: in 2023, 40% of A Level grades were awarded A*/A, resulting in a 100% Oxbridge and Russell Group application success rate. Our GCSE results were equally strong, with 70% of all GCSE grades being awarded A*/A. Hampton Court House was in 2022 ranked in the top 50 independent schools nationwide (The Telegraph) and in the top 10 co-educational independent schools in London (School Owl, 2023).

Our programmes offer an extraordinary education. From the Forest School in Early Years and the award-winning Institut francais LabelFrancÉducation accredited French bilingual programme, to the Nebula Future Researcher’s Programme © in the Sixth Form, Hampton Court House pupils get a head start every step of the way.

We lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning, and it is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. In keeping with our ethos, we believe that children need some guided freedom in order to develop their independence and confidence to use their voice. Our non-uniform parkland campus environment, in which staff and pupils alike are addressed on a first-name basis, cultivates an energy where pupils grow in confidence and find themselves.

The school is located close to Hampton Court station, which is 35 minutes from Waterloo and 20 minutes from Wimbledon by train. There are also frequent buses to and from Kingston, Hampton, Teddington and Twickenham, or for staff who drive, there is on-site parking.
