Start date: September 2019
Contract type: Full Time
Salary: Mill Hill School salary scale
Contract term: Permanent
Suitable for NQTs: Yes

Founded in 1807, Mill Hill School is an independent co-educational boarding and day school with 750 pupils aged between 13 and 18, of whom 300 are in the Sixth Form. The School is one of four in the Mill Hill School Foundation, which comprises Pre-preparatory, Preparatory and Senior Schools as well an on-site International School.

We are situated in a magnificent 120-acre parkland campus on the edge of the North London Green Belt, providing a wonderful environment in which to work. The School is very much a community, particularly given the central importance of boarding: we are unusual for a London school to be offering full and  weekly boarding, with over 180 boarding pupils.

A well-qualified and enthusiastic graduate is required for September 2019 to teach Computer Science to GCSE and A-level within a dynamic, successful and growing department.

The ICT & Computer Science Department is thriving and Computer Science in particular is an increasingly popular subject with a high percentage of pupils going on from IGCSE to take it in the Sixth Form. The ability to program in Python or Microsoft Visual Basic.NET (the main languages used by our exam board) at a competent level is highly desirable, although other programming languages will be considered. The post will involve teaching Computer Science, and Digital Literacy at various points across the age range from Fourth Form (Year 9) to Upper Sixth. Some ICT teaching may also be necessary, depending on timetable demands. The ability to lead co-curricular programmes using Raspberry PIs and/or Arduino would be an advantage.

The post would be equally suitable for an experienced teacher or for someone at an earlier stage in their career. Candidates should state in their application any additional subjects that they are confident to teach. We would be able to support a Newly Qualified Teacher and we would also be happy to receive applications from those looking to train via a work-based PGCE route.

The successful candidate will be expected to play a full part in the broader life of the School. This will include responsibility for a tutor group, reporting to a day or boarding Housemaster/ mistress as appropriate.

Further information on the post, together with the application form, is available by email or post and on the School’s website www.millhill.org.uk

The School and all its staff are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children. The School is registered with the DBS and successful applicants will be required to complete successfully the Disclosure procedure at the Enhanced level.

Closing date for applications: Wednesday 16 January 2019
