The Role and the Computer Science Department

Computer Science is taught by a team of very well-qualified Computer Science teachers working in dedicated computer rooms. Our Key Stage 3 courses blend a mixture of Computer Science and Digital Literacy skills to ensure students are well-equipped for the future. Web design, data manipulation and digital skills are taught alongside computational thinking and coding. We have worked with Apps for Good for many years now and have had several teams reach the national finals. We have just finished our first year of the Apps for Good machine-learning course. The Cambridge IGCSE Computer Science course is offered as an option for Year 10 and 11, with a healthy number of pupils signing up each year. At A-Level, we offer AQA Computer Science. Many of our A-Level students opt to study the subject at university. As a department we have supported Oxbridge applications and helped students obtain industrial sponsorships and internships. The department runs a range of extra-curricular activities including robotics workshops, coding clubs and cryptography competitions. Software used to support Computer Science teaching includes the Adobe Creative Suite (web-design -including JavaScript programming, animation and graphics), Microsoft Office (data manipulation and digital literacy), Oxford Turtle (Pascal), Scratch (Year 7 and machine-learning for Year 9), BlueJ (Java at GCSE level), Netbeans (Java at A-Level) and the G-suite of software for day-to-day working.

Safeguarding

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
