Job overview

This is an opportunity to join one of the most high-achieving and forward-looking independent schools in London. We are looking for an outstanding Teacher of Computer Science to join our thriving department at this over-subscribed, academically selective school for girls aged 11 to 18. There is also scope for the appointed person to have a role in EdTech within the College during the introduction of 1:1 devices for pupils in the classroom over the coming academic year.

The Computer Science department aims to teach our pupils both theoretical knowledge and practical skills surrounding all aspects of the computing industry, including emerging technologies.  Younger classes are introduced to the concept of data representation, including how images, sound and text may be represented in binary. They also learn about a range of computing hardware, graphical and text-based programming languages.  If chosen as a GCSE option, pupils will embark on the Cambridge International IGCSE Computer Science course. The A-Level option is new at Queen’s College London, and current students follow the OCR Computer Science course. Results have been consistently high in the department – in Summer 2022, 89% of pupils achieved a grade 8 or 9 at GCSE.

This is a full-time, permanent position starting in April 2023 or earlier if possible. It offers a competitive salary, dependent on qualifications, skills and experience, plus healthcare insurance (taxable benefit), free lunches in the Dining Room during term time and a wellness allowance.

As the first school in the UK to grant academic qualifications to women, Queen’s has a proud history of educating some of this country’s most pioneering women. This appointment represents an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to join our Computer Science department and ensure we retain our position at the forefront of girls’ education.

Applications will be welcomed both from experienced teachers and ECTs. The College has a very successful ECT induction programme overseen by ISTIP.

Completed application forms should be sent via email to the Executive Assistant to the Principal, Ms Roisin Archer (rarcher@qcl.org.uk) by 9.00am Monday 5 December. Applications will be considered as they are received by the College and candidates may be invited to interview at any stage. Early applications are warmly encouraged.

Queen’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Queen’s College recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.
