Chorlton High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, temporary Teacher of Dance to join this popular and oversubscribed school. This position is on a fixed term basis starting 1st September 2018 to 31st December 2018.
The Dance Department
The Dance Department at Chorlton High School is a well-established and popular department of two specialist teachers, who constantly strive to maintain high standards in all aspects of Dance. In recent years the department has received praise for many aspects of its work including providing a diverse curriculum as well as an inclusive extra-curricular provision.
The facilities in the school are of a high standard and they are constantly being upgraded. At present they include: - 2 Dance studios, 2 GCSE theory rooms and a 200 capacity theatre space.
The Department aims to motivate and develop the students through a broad and balanced curriculum, providing opportunities for the entire learning spectrum. Dance in KS3 is taught on a weekly basis throughout years 7 and 8 with units of learning constantly updated offering students a broad range of genres and experience of contrasting dance styles and professional dance works.
GCSE Dance is offered for KS4 students providing them with a good foundation of academic and vocational dance experience. The Dance department maintains strong links with regional and national dance agencies, performance opportunities and theatre visits. We aim to provide outstanding teaching and learning to all students.
An extensive programme of extra-curricular activities is offered to all students; this reflects the diversity of the teaching curriculum as well as the needs of the students.
Whole school events organised by the department are built into the school calendar; these include a number of annual performance projects which includes working towards a school musical as well as Dance Department performance evenings.
The department are an enthusiastic, committed team which delivers consistently ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ lessons and an extensive and successful extra-curricular programme. All staff within the department develop positive working relationships and would support and develop any new member of staff.
