Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and committed teacher with a passion of Product Design to join our school and become part of the school’s continuing journey towards “Outstanding”

Airedale Academy is an 11-18 school located in the former industrial heartland of Yorkshire, at the junction of the M62 and A1. We are the founding member of a growing and successful cross-phase multi-academy trust, at the heart of a close-knit community and with a focus on supporting children in disadvantaged areas to achieve their potential.

We know our students are capable of great things with the right support and encouragement - students from Airedale have gone on to Oxbridge, medical schools, business intern programmes, theatre school and even careers in blockbuster films. Like us, you will have high expectations and believe that disadvantage need not be a barrier to success; you will be passionate about encouraging students to develop our values of respect, ambition and bravery in daring to dream about what they could achieve.

In our most recent Ofsted inspection (September 2017), Airedale Academy was rated ‘Good’ in all areas, with the report noting that “teaching is effective” and “strong relationships between staff and students are based on mutual trust and respect.” As a new member of our team, you will build on these firm foundations as we continue to strive to achieve the very best for the community of pupils we serve.

Naurally, you should be a qualified (or soon to be qualified ) Design & Technology Teacher with a specialism in product design. There is capacity within the department to offer excellent support and mentoring to newly or recently qualified teachers. However we would be equally happy to welcome a more experienced teacher into the team who could contribute to the strategic development of the department.

The forward thinking and flourishing faculty currently has 4 teaching staff, is supported by a full time technician and benefits from a wide range of resources and new technologies. This is an additional post as a result of the expansion of the Department due to the subject success throughout the school, and therefore an increase in curriculum time in KS3.

Uptake at GCSE is increasing year on year and our subjects are amongst the most popular at GCSE. Our staff are highly valued and experienced; we are a close–knit and supportive team who work well together.

We believe in trying our best to ensure that staff are happy and fulfilled in their work and receive the training and support they need to perform their role. We offer excellent conditions of employment (including in 2017 a 2% increase for all main pay scale teachers), significant investment in CPD and great benefits such as break-time refreshments, flu jabs, access to fitness facilities, exercise classes and even car valeting.  We’re also a very friendly team!

We could tell you much more about why you should apply, but we think the best way for you to find out if this is the role for you is to have a chat with Hazel Evans, Head of Art, Design and Technology on 01977 664555. We’d also encourage you visit to see our school for yourself: please contact Hazel to make an appointment or email info@airedaleacademy.com

Further details and an application form are available on our website https://www.northernambition.org.uk/vacancies/ or by contacting the HR Team at HRAAT@airedaleacademy.com

This post is initially offered for one year, with conversion to a permanent post after the first year subject to a successful performance review.

Northern Ambition Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Closing Date for applications: 6th July 2018

Date of Interviews: TBC
