Job overview

Required for January 2019 - Teacher of Design and Technology

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Kingsway School for a Design and Technology Teacher to join a strong team of dedicated professionals in a vibrant and progressive department. Being a large school, there are plenty of opportunities to gain experience in and out of subject specialisms and to be part of a thriving school community.

The post will involve teaching Design & Technology at KS3, across all subject areas with the ideal candidate possessing a KS4 specialism within Resistant Materials. The role will also require some teaching of Food Technology. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and NQT’s who operate across all aspects of Design and Technology including Resistant Materials, Mechanisms and Structures, Graphic Products, Electronic Products and Food Technology.

At The Kingsway School, we are very proud of our students, many of whom go on to study Technology based subjects at A-Level at local colleges and who have remarked on the quality of the Technology teaching they have encountered whilst in our care.

Students want to learn at The Kingsway School and Design and Technology subjects are a popular option. We have small to medium size classes in KS4, which leads to a more personal learning environment and better pupil engagement. We follow both NCFE craft and AQA Design and Technology courses in addition to WJEC Electronics and Food Technology. There are resources available for all the topics and subjects and experienced teachers in the department often support non-specialists, to make sure they are secure in their teaching knowledge.

The Kingsway School is a good school, which is striving and succeeding in its ambition for Outstanding. To achieve that, the school is committed to supporting staff, providing clear plans for CPD and the opportunity to be supported by Outstanding teachers across the curriculum. This has meant that teaching has improved and staff feel supported in developing their own practice, leading to promotions in and out of school.

We are a very friendly and supportive department and we would welcome applicants who are interested in joining us to apply for this position. If you would like to discuss the role in more detail then please contact Mr Bryce Whitham, Head of Department on b.whitham@kingsway.stockport.sch.uk

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the wellbeing of children and young people and expects all staff to share their commitment and adhere to these expectations. An enhanced DBS is required for all successful applicants, along with satisfactory references. Full Policy available on our website.

Ofsted report

“Where learning is very rapid as the result of outstanding teaching, lessons move along at a fast pace with high levels of challenge that really make students think deeply. Students relish the challenging work and tackle problems with real determination. They enjoy working on their own and finding things out for themselves, only relying on the teacher to steer them in the right direction when necessary.”
