The post and the department
This is an opportunity to join a lively and creative Drama department covering both our 7-11 and International School sites. All students study Drama throughout key stage 3 and it remains a popular option at GCSE. We recently began offering Drama as a distinct subject at our International School (TIS), also based in North Oxford, and have seen good uptake of the subject at GCSE.
Teaching is in small groups of up to 16 students in years 7-9 and somewhat smaller in years 10 and 11. These small groups enable us to focus on students’ individual needs and help them to achieve their full potential. We aim to instill a love of Drama in all of our pupils. Drama at d’Overbroeck’s is about allowing students to develop confidence in themselves – not just as performers, but as individuals and members of a broader society. We want our students to develop their confidence and imagination as well as their talents. To this end, we put a strong emphasis on a collaborative approach to Drama. Everyone has an input; everyone's individual aptitudes are recognised.
We have a very popular and well-established extra-curricular programme, with a whole school production happening once a year as well as a smaller KS3 production, with the scope to expand this in the future. The standard of performance work, both in extra-curricular and for examination, is extremely high and this culture of excellence drives the success of the department.
