Job overview

Teacher of Drama

Full time from September 2023

You will be joining a high achieving and creative Drama department and one of the cultural hubs within our school. As a well-qualified Drama graduate (1st/2:i) you will have the ability to teach Drama at key stages 3, 4 and 5.

In Years 7 to 9, drama is taught as a discreet subject and as a highly popular option choice in Year 9. At GCSE Drama, the AQA syllabus is taught and at AS and A level we follow the EDUQAS (WJEC) specification. The successful candidate would be expected, as appropriate, to teach classes at public examination level. The department continues to achieve outstanding GCSE and A’Level Examination results, with most girls achieving A* and A grades in Drama and Theatre Studies in all specifications.

Outside of the classroom drama thrives, and you be expected to play a significant role in the provision of extra-curricular productions by directing one of these per year. In a typical academic year, there are three senior school plays, (Year 10 to U6) and two lower school plays (Years 7-9) and school musicals are staged biennially. Additionally, every other year the department takes a group of Sixth Form students up to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We can offer you:

  • competitive salary, well above the national scale
  • a friendly and supportive staff team who work collaboratively, sharing resources and ideas
  •  outstanding, well-resourced facilities
  • regular professional development and well-being opportunities throughout the year
  • your own iPad and laptop
  •  membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme
  • access to employee benefits and advice services.
