About the Department

St Marylebone Design and Technology is a small energetic department. Currently, the department has adapted SoW to maximise practical work for students who may have missed out recently AROC. We use low stakes testing and resources to maximise knowledge retention to help students recognise and acknowledge the progress they are making and skills they are gaining in a wide range of material areas at KS3. Students at KS3 work in four areas over the course of the year, swapping at the spring half term. We have a consistent policy of progress tracking of the NEAs at KS4 and intervention in place to manage workload and secure achievement.  We use data, practical assessment criteria and feedback to reflect on how best to support all students.

We are active in enrichment and promote our ‘Growing Green’ Initiative through the newly created DT Blog and After School Clubs with opportunities at KS3-5 supporting knowledge and understanding of the subject and it's context beyond school and in the wider world, in particular linked to environmental awareness and healthy living.  We make use of online and physical resources of the Design Museum, V&A and other local Design and Food Hubs to support enrichment and encourage student engagement with the subject.

The school has been a specialist arts college since 1998. It has since become a specialist school in mathematics and computing, and in special educational needs. This level of expertise has ensured St Marylebone is a model academic setting.
