TEACHER OF ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS STUDIES 

Reports to: Master, Head of Senior School and Head of Humanities  

1 General role description: 

The Teacher of Economics and Business Studies is directly responsible to the Head of Humanities. The teacher is primarily responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of timetabled lessons. Homework should be set regularly and all work assessed and recorded in accordance with the school’s assessment policy. 

Economics and Business Studies are vibrant and continuously changing subjects. The Teacher of Economics and Business Studies is expected to keep up to date with developments in the area and, as part of the Economics and Business Studies team, contribute to continuous curriculum development and the preparation of department resources under the guidance of the Head of Humanities. 

The teacher is likely to take responsibility for students ranging from Year 10 to Year 13 including teaching IGCSE and A level. Note that the school has a high proportion of EAL students and the teacher is expected to plan for this and ensure that lessons are adequately differentiated so that all students can access learning. 

The teacher is likely to take responsibility for a tutor group and is expected to contribute to the pastoral aspects of the school.

2 Knowledge, Experience and Profile 

Required Qualifications / Skills:

a) A relevant degree and professional teaching qualification is essential

b) A passion for the subject and a desire to share this with as wide a range of students

as possible

c) Experience in designing and delivering progressive design and technology curricula

d) Knowledge of CIE A Level /IGCSE level curricula, their delivery and assessment

e) Fluency in written and spoken English to enable effective communication within working relationships

f) Puts the wellbeing of the student at the heart of what they do and can demonstrate

how they will support the development of the school’s values, mission and vision.

g) Experience of using technology in education is desirable

h) Honesty, integrity, compassion, and a good sense of humour

i) Strong organizational, self-management and problem-solving skills
