The opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Economics to further their career at an innovative British curriculum co-educational international boarding school.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who meet the following requirements:

• A qualified teacher with a UK PGCE or other globally recognised teaching qualification (such as QTS).

• A minimum of 2 years' qualified full-time teaching experience.

• A reflective practitioner, with a positive, resilient personality and problem-solving skill-set.

• Recent and consistent experience of Co-Curricular Activities

To be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can teach, and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development, and has students who achieve well. 


Principle Duties and Responsibilities 

Planning, Teaching and Class Management

• Teach allocated students by planning their teaching to achieve progression of learning through

• ensuring students acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught.

• evaluating own teaching critically to improve effectiveness

• ensuring the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support. 

• ensure the implementation of department policy and best practice. 

Monitoring, Assessment, Recording, Reporting

• assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching.

• mark and monitor students' work and set targets for progress.

• undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, departmental and school procedures. 

• prepare and present informative reports to parents. 

• undertake assessment of students and participate in the school’s system reporting to parents. 

Curriculum Development

Have responsibility for the academic curriculum and wider school contributions to development plans which identify clear targets and success criteria for its development and / or maintenance.

Pastoral Duties

• be a Form Tutor to an assigned group of students, (some of the following apply if called upon as tutor). 

• promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of the Form Tutor Group as a whole.

• liaise with the Pastoral Leader to ensure the implementation of the school's pastoral system.

• register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of school life.  

• contribute to Wellbeing and citizenship and enterprise according to school policy.

Other Professional Requirements

• establish effective working relationships and set a good example through their presentation and personal and professional conduct.

• take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings, Parents Evenings, Review days, etc. 

• Prepare Termly Personal Teaching and Work Report as requested.

• liaise effectively with parents and governors.

We welcome applicants with experience of working within boarding schools or applicants with a keen interest to participate, live and work within a boarding community. We appreciate that all applicants may not have such experience at present but we welcome applicants with the right approach to a unique part of the MIS experience.

The position will commence in August 2022, and the initial contract will be for a period of two years. Preference is given to candidates already in Mainland China.

All MIS teachers are expected to participate fully in the school’s life beyond the classroom by contributing to the Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme and boarding house life.

Applicants should apply online through the TES careers portal. Please provide the names and full contact details of three professional referees, one of whom should be the Director/Head of School/Principal of your current school.

Short-listed candidates must be able to provide a recent DBS/PVG check, police clearance certificate, or similar record of non-criminality demonstrating that there is no reason why they cannot work with children.

The application should be submitted no later than Friday 22nd July 2022.

Early applications are encouraged, as MIS reserves the right to appoint before the deadline.

Due to national regulations, it is very unlikely that we will be able to secure a work permit or visa for foreign nationals whose 60th or subsequent birthdays take place between August 1 2021 and July 31, 2022.
