Teacher of Educational Support

Oundle SchoolNorthamptonshire

To start September 2021, with an induction in the last week of August, we are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Educational Support to develop and inspire our pupils, and who is able to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole.  In return the School is committed to helping you develop further as a teacher by supporting you with appropriate professional development.

This busy department offers individual or small group support to those who experience problems associated with a full range of specific learning difficulties and disabilities with an educational impact, underdeveloped study skills and also to pupils for whom English is an additional language. Support is available to pupils six days per week and, because of the nature of the timetable, there is an expected commitment to teaching outside the mainstream curriculum.

Learning difficulties at Oundle do not preclude success. Indeed, it is frequently the case that difficulty in one area is balanced by outstanding performance in another and we aim to support areas of difficulty by playing to a pupil’s strengths. The department echoes the School’s ethos, valuing the richness of diversity of its pupils and striving to ensure that all pupils have access to a full, balanced curriculum, which nurtures and enhances individual strengths, whilst supporting individual difficulties.

By its nature, Educational Support focuses on the individual, designing programmes which are based on an understanding of each child’s learning strengths and weaknesses. We are very privileged to have a window on the individual pupil profile and it is this insight which allows the department to play a pivotal liaison role with mainstream Teachers, Tutors, Housemasters and, not least, with parents.

We are fortunate in our location at the heart of a beautiful market town: School and town are part of the same community and our pupils take their place within this community, not isolated from it. The town has a spirited cultural life, with an annual international festival, literature festival, and frequent performances of nationally touring shows at the School’s Stahl theatre.  The town has a range of independent shops, coffee houses, pubs and eateries. Encircled by the river Nene, the town is also blessed to be surrounded by beautiful countryside with many picturesque villages nearby.

For those moving into the area, accommodation may be available at a discounted rate.  Other benefits include a salary on the generous Oundle pay scale.
