John Leggott College (JLC) are looking to appoint a Teacher of English on a Fixed Term to teach as part of our vibrant English department.  This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to work with 14-19 year old learners as part of a large and successful department within a well-respected, progressive sixth form college.

John Leggott College (JLC) is a leading Sixth Form College in North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, East Lindsey, Lincolnshire, Doncaster Hull and Rotherham. JLC has consistently been in the top 25% of all schools and colleges for A-Level and top 10% for BTEC. The college’s learners are fantastic and JLC are looking for teachers who can harness their talent inspiring them to progress to the best universities and employers around the world.

The college currently offers a broad range of English courses from Functional Skills to GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature and A levels in English Language, English Literature and English Combined.  Candidates should have the ability to teach across both the Academy (14-16) GCSE English and A level English/GCSE English resit provision.  The Department is also engaging in a wide variety of enrichment activities, for example, encouraging students to enter young writers’ competitions, forging links with English departments in leading universities and local schools as well as organising guest speakers from subject specialists.   

The post may suit an experienced schoolteacher or a practitioner from an FE background, although we welcome applications form less experienced candidates, including recent graduates who can demonstrate the necessary skills and enthusiasm for the post.

John Leggott College is a mixed, selective, non-denominational, general further education college situated in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. It is a 16-plus institution based on a single modern campus close to the town centre, with good access to surrounding rural areas. There are around 1,700 learners at the college, between the ages of 16-19, studying a range of academic and vocational courses.

The college was founded in 1958 as John Leggott Grammar School. The sixth form was established in 1968 in the midst of a Scunthorpe education reorganisation.
