Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, well-qualified and inspirational Teacher of English who will stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in their study of English at A-level and GCSE. There is also the possibility of leading the GCSE English course for the right candidate, which attracts an extra allowance of £1989 per annum. 

Working within the English and Foreign Languages department, you will teach A-level and GCSE English. We offer courses in language, literature and the combined English A-level, so some range and flexibility in terms of skills and experience is desirable. The team is a vibrant and successful one (comprising 14 teachers who report to the Director of English and Foreign Languages) and we are looking for a team-player with a willingness to contribute to new initiatives. We pride ourselves on the quality of teaching and learning, and the student-centred focus we have as a team. You will have a degree or equivalent in English and must have a commitment to active and innovative teaching and learning, both inside and outside the classroom.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College situated in Eastleigh, Hampshire is one of the largest (over 4,700 students in 2022) and most successful sixth form colleges in the country.

  • OFSTED judged the College Outstanding across all four key judgements: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
