Job overview

Teacher of English – MPS 0.4 FTE with option to increase

This role represents an incredibly exciting, unique opportunity for any candidate who is ready and is keen to join the English Department in this dynamic forward thinking and award winning Studio School.

Having opened in September 2015 with the first cohort of Year 9 and Year 12 students in our magnificent architecturally designed, purpose built building, the school is flourishing and more recently, Ofsted graded us as a ‘Good’ School with outstanding features at our first Ofsted Inspection.

Our students get off the bus in the morning having ‘opted’ to come to our school. Their positive and professional attitude contributes to a wonderful atmosphere as students are custodians of the building and own their learning.

Information about the school

We are a small school but big on ambition! Our average class size is 20 and our staff and students love working here. Our mission is to prepare our students for successful professional careers in the Built Environment and Creative Industries and expose them to a culture of success through our well-developed professional partnerships with employers.

Pursuing academic excellence and developing high-level skills and appropriate knowledge are key features of the Atrium Studio’s approach. At Key Stage 4, students study an extensive programme of 10 GCSEs; all part of an extended school day which mirrors the business world.

Forty years of accumulative evidence highlights that Project Based Learning can be more effective than traditional approaches for engaging children and equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed. We have certainly found that to be the case and PBL sits at the heart of our curriculum.  We look forward to the successful candidate joining our team to further develop this successful initiative.

Please visit our website (www.atrium-studio.co.uk) to see for yourself the potential that exists. Please contact Mary Hodge on 01364 655399 or mhodge@atrium-studio.co.uk who will arrange a mutually convenient time for you to visit. Mrs Sam Morcumb, Acting Principal, is also available to speak to prospective candidates on an informal basis over the telephone.

Atrium Studio School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The successful candidate will require an enhanced DBS check.

About Atrium Studio School

Atrium Studio is the first Studio School of its type in the country, specialising in the Built Environment (Architecture, Surveying & Planning, Engineering, Design, Town Planning, Ecology and many more). Our mission is to prepare our students for successful professional careers in the Built Environment, and expose them to a culture of success through our well-developed professional partnerships with employers.

Having opened in September 2015 with the first cohort of Year 9 and Year 12 students in our magnificent architecturally designed, purpose built building, the school is flourishing and more recently, Ofsted graded us as a ‘Good’ School with outstanding features at our first Ofsted Inspection.

Latest research suggests that employers are craving workers who have the right attitude and willingness to work, and an appreciation of how to conduct themselves in the workplace. Our emphasis on project-based learning, aligned with significant work experience, will allow our students to succeed in a dynamic and constantly changing work arena.

At full capacity, Atrium will have only 375 students, all in small class sizes. Research shows that in smaller schools, on average, student attainment improves, student affiliation to their local community increases, there is greater safety and order, higher levels of parental involvement and more positive teacher attitudes. Since opening in September 2015, this has certainly proved to be the case for us.
