Job overview

About the role

If you are in education to make a real difference to young people’s lives, Fearnhill is for you. We are on an exciting journey with significant improvement evident across the school, growing popularity with parents and an environment for professional development that is second to none. As a warm and inclusive community transforming the lives of young people in Letchworth, we have an opportunity for an English specialist to join us. An ability, or willingness to teach Media would be welcomed.

We invite you to come and spend some time here; meet our students, watch innovative teaching in action and enjoy our calm and purposeful learning environment. Our ‘taster’ session will give you the opportunity to judge for yourself whether this is a school where you can grow professionally, enjoy high levels of support and be involved in exciting curriculum innovation.

We welcome applications from ECTs or more experienced colleagues; an attractive recruitment and retention package is available for the successful candidate. We work flexibly; part-time applications will be considered.

A message from Hadeel, Head of English:

Thank you for your interest in our wonderful, small and supportive school! Our English team is an enthusiastic bunch, dedicated to the best outcomes for all our students. We are housed in a specialist area, with a set of chrome books and a large store cupboard full of lovely books! We are passionate about delivering an updated, diverse and broad curriculum from Year 7 right through to English Literature at A-level, where our groups are small and successful. You will have the opportunity to deliver up to Key Stage 5, both in English and possibly in Media too. At the heart of our school is the Fearnhill library, a vibrant and warm space available to students throughout the day, as well as devoted curriculum time to reading. Our Media option at Key Stage 4 is one of our students’ most popular choices; this is a great area for a creative and innovative approach if you are a teacher who wants to develop in this subject too. The successful applicant will be passionate, a team player and someone who genuinely wants to make a positive difference.

We look forward to meeting you; please get in touch to arrange a visit (some costs can be covered for this), or call Liz Ellis, Headteacher, on 01462 621200 for more information. Alternatively, simply apply. We look forward to receiving your application.

Fearnhill School is committed to recruiting with care and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people; we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA barred list for children, plus verification of the right to work in the UK.
