Shenzhen College of International Education: 

Founded in 2003, SCIE is the city’s first full-time high school (Year 10 to Year 13) teaching an international curriculum. SCIE is a highly selective day and boarding school teaching an international curriculum to Chinese students preparing them for oversea universities. Using English as the medium of instruction and communication, SCIE offers IGCSE and GCE AS and A-levels, mainly through Cambridge international. SCIE is a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and a member school of the regional organisations: EARCOS and FOBISIA.

The mission of the College is to educate students in a challenging and international environment that leads to academic achievements at the highest level, and to develop social responsibility, creativity, initiative and enthusiasm, which provide each student with the best preparation for future opportunities. 

Students at SCIE aspire to attend the best overseas universities. The class of 2020 received 30 Oxbridge offers in a diverse range of subjects including Philosophy, Computer Science, HSPS(Human, Social, and Political Science), Law, Psychological, Land Economy and Behavioral Science, Economics and Management and Sciences. SCIE has a very diversified staff who come from more than 20 countries, not only UK, New Zealand, America and Australia, but also Canada, Colombia, India, Ireland, South Africa and Spain. In 2020, the College has over 140 full-time teachers and 70 administrative staff members. 

In August 2020, the College moved to its brand new purpose-built campus in Antuoshan, Shenzhen. The new site is fully equipped for the College expansion with smart classrooms, a large number of science laboratories, a 750-seat theatre, sports facilities and all that we need to facilitate the high quality teaching and learning of the College community. The top floor, with a comfortable staff lounge, gym and designated areas for meetings and CPD, is accessible to staff only. Staff are housed in the separate adjacent staff block, which offers two and three-bedroom furnished apartments.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stones thrown away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.

Specific Responsibilities: 

At our new campus, English now has 24 full time teachers, and we will further expand to about 30 teachers by 2023. The level of English amongst our students has been developing and currently the students study a blended language and literature course in UK Years 10 and 11 according to their ability and background. Typically, students will then take the IGCSE E2L exam at the end of their first year and then IGCSE English Language, and possibly also English Literature at the end of their second year. In their A Level years, UK Years 12 and 13, students will move on to the UK GCSE English Language in Year 12 and an Extended Project Qualification in their final year. Students may also choose to study AS/AL English Language or English Literature to further their interests, instead of the regular courses. 

We are looking for strong English teachers with experience of both language and literature to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion.

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays) and the normal student contact time is 24 x 40 minute periods per week (55% contact time), in addition to class preparation. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 wk for October National Day and 3 wks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Salary: 

According to our published salary scale, plus housing allowance or school apartment, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse). 

Requirements: 

• A degree in your area of expertise 

• A teaching qualification (PGCE, BEd or equivalent) 

• 2 years teaching experience in the relevant area
