Job overview

The Convent of Jesus and Mary is a warm and welcoming, successful Catholic 11-18 comprehensive school for girls located in North West London. We are a member of the Diocese of Westminster Academy Trust and work closely with our partner secondary and primary schools across London and neighbouring counties.

English is successfully taught throughout the school and is one of our most popular subject choices to A level. Our girls are highly aspirant and many move on to some of the country’s best universities both in the UK and in the USA. Medicine is always a popular route.

This post is suitable for an enthusiastic and talented NQT or equally for a more experienced teacher.

The Convent does not require its staff to be baptised or practising Catholics but does expect that non- Catholic staff respect our faith, prayer life and values and participate in our acts of worship.

Our staff at the Convent enjoy many benefits:

· A warm and friendly, caring and supportive environment where our ethnic diversity is celebrated and valued

· Very well behaved, polite and studious girls, ambitious for their achievement

· Excellent programme of professional development; many colleagues have developed their career within the school

· Thriving and varied programme of performances and productions

· A close and collegiate professional staff body and complimentary tea and coffee available at all times in the staffroom with special breaktime treats on Fridays

· Staff well-being committee and a leadership team committed to making staff workload and work- life balance a priority.

About Saint Claudine's Catholic School for Girls

This truly remarkable school has been providing the highest quality of holistic education to girls for over a century. Its long history of Catholic tradition and founding on the values of St Claudine Thevenet ensure that every child is seen as special, unique and a gift from God. St Claudine’s life work was to care for, nurture and educate children. She established the Religious of Jesus and Mary houses and schools which has led to the current education of children in 28 different countries. Here in England there are just three Convent of Jesus and Mary schools; an independent college in Thornton and an infant and secondary girls’ school here, in Willesden.

St Claudine’s Catholic School for Girls provides places to more than 1,000 girls aged 11-18 and has its own sixth form.

Values and vision

Prayer is an essential part of the life of our school.  We pray together at the beginning and end of the day, in form times and assemblies, at the start of lessons and before exams. Everyone in our school community is invited to participate in our prayer and liturgy insofar as they are able. Students lead music, read scripture and prayers in assemblies and at Mass. We have a special affection for St. Claudine who founded the Religious of Jesus and Mary, and often ask her to pray for us using our school prayer.

Ofsted report

“A highly experienced headteacher leads a strong senior team who identify good practice in teaching and learning from a range of sources and implement it across the school… Positive attitudes to learning are a notable feature among students who arrive in class very well prepared for learning and ready to do their best.”
