Teacher of English MPS - UPS

Full time, temporary post for two terms maternity cover

(January 2020 to August 2020)

We are looking for a well-qualified and passionate teacher to join the English Department at our popular, oversubscribed school which enjoys an excellent reputation for academic success and pastoral care. Bishop Walsh is a great place to teach where children enjoy learning. We believe in leading pupils to academic excellence, spiritual development and social awareness.

The successful candidate will join a very successful English department. At KS5 English is very popular. The department runs two courses; A Level English Literature and A Level English Literature and Language with 100% pass rate, both subjects with many grades at A*, A and B. At GCSE in 2019 the school achieved 85% grades 4 – 9 in Maths and English.

It would be desirable, but not essential, if the successful candidate could offer Media to GCSE and/or A Level.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a school where students are hardworking and have a positive attitude to learning and in a English department where the teachers are experienced, knowledgeable, friendly and supportive. Applications are welcomed from non-Catholics willing to support our Catholic ethos.

Applications from well-qualified NQTs are welcomed as well as more experienced teachers.

St John Paul II Multi Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  All appointments are therefore subject to satisfactory DBS and Immigration Checks, together with the receipt of references and only applications submitted on the Academy’s application form will be considered.

The school became part of The John Paul II Multi Academy, with its Catholic partner primary schools on 1 January 2014.

For further details and an application form please contact Mrs Whitehouse on              07747 216081– email: vacancies@sjp2.net   or follow the links on our website.

Values and vision

Bishop Walsh Catholic School’s ethos is built on the Catholic tradition and focuses on social awareness, spiritual development and academic excellence. It wants to support the spiritual, moral, social, vocational and cultural development of all its students. The secondary school believes that all British values – such as democracy, rule of law, mutual respect and individual liberty – are rooted in the teachings of the gospel.

Bishop Walsh's curriculum is broad and balanced to give its pupils a well-rounded education. Teachers understand that all children are individuals created in the image of God, with their own strengths, interests and talents.

Ofsted report

“The school is very well led by a capable and successful principal who has both vision and purpose. He is very ably supported by a highly effective team of senior leaders. The proportion of pupils achieving good GCSE grades, including English and mathematics is much higher than the national average. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding. The school very successfully promotes tolerance, respect and fairness, ensuring that pupils develop into well-rounded young people.”
