Salary TMS – UPS3

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, talented Teacher of English.  The successful candidate will have a firm commitment to raising whole-school achievement; have a professional approach to staff development; high expectations; and a determination to succeed.  Applications from both NQTs and experienced staff are welcomed.

The English Faculty is a large department that is forward thinking, friendly and supportive; they are passionate about academic excellence, collaboration and delivering high quality teaching for every student. Students at Key Stage 3 and 4 are currently taught within ability groupings in English. There are two parallel half-year groups; which are then set according to ability. At Key Stage 3 we work closely with the middle schools to ensure continuity in the delivery of the programmes of study and are looking to develop a mastery in the curriculum. At GCSE pupils are entered for AQA English Language and also AQA English Literature.  Post 16 we offer both AQA A Level English Literature and AQA A Level English Language. There is an opportunity to teach KS5 for a suitable candidate

The English Faculty plays a key role in the extra-curricular life of Thomas Alleyne’s.  Staff members are involved in a national poetry day celebration, as well as taking part in the Rotary Club creative writing competition, whole school reading week, the Carnegie Medal challenge and Talk the Talk oracy project.  Theatre trips are a regular activity across all year groups.  National Theatre productions have been watched live by Year 10 to further develop their love of Shakespeare.  We also have a school library and our school librarian supports the Accelerated Reader programme with Year 9 students.

Thomas Alleyne’s High School is a 13 – 18 school at the heart of its community, which provides a broad and balanced curriculum for students.  We are committed to ensuring that every child has access to an outstanding education. Our successful track record of ensuring students make excellent progress has ensured improved outcomes for young people.  As a National Teaching School, we are passionate about staff development and are looking to develop future leaders, and have a proven track record of appointments to leadership positions.  We offer a comprehensive CPD programme to develop teaching practice as well as supporting emerging leaders, both through internal development and the NPQ programmes.  All staff are fully supported with a professional development programme.

Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced teachers.
