Appointment of a Teacher of English (Temporary)

The Head Master invites applications from well-qualified graduates to teach English throughout the school. The successful candidate will be expected to take up his or her appointment on 1st January 2019. This is a full-time, fixed-term post for two terms.

All members of the English Department are expected to be skilled, informed, stimulating teachers of language and literature across a range of abilities, ages and specifications. All members of the department teach younger boys in the Lower School, where, while seeking to foster creative and critical talents, we also aim to cultivate the control of accurate written English. Clear course structures are in place for every year group, but the department does not impose rigorous schemes of work and, wherever possible, encourages teachers to choose their own approaches and texts. At Pre-U level, there is scope for teachers to incorporate the teaching of a wide range of literature in accordance with their own interests and expertise. Further teaching opportunities may include drama, theatre studies and creative writing. We enjoy considerable success with Oxbridge entry, run numerous competitions in critical and creative writing and bring a stream of writers, performers and academics to interact with boys. We expect all English teachers to contribute to the challenging, exciting learning environment to which we expose our students, both within lesson time and beyond. 

All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service; the College reserves the right to make other required checks. Applicants should note that the College, in addition to requiring three satisfactory references, is required to seek references from the most recent employment where a candidate has worked with children.
