Job overview

Forest School is seeking to appoint a dynamic, engaging and innovative Teacher of Food and Nutrition, who has excellent subject knowledge, with the ability to contribute to the continued improvements in pupil progress and attainment. The successful candidate will be an inspiring presence in the classroom with a commitment to raising the achievement of all pupils.

The department currently consists of six members of teaching staff and a Head of Department, whilst the teaching is supported by one technician. The department has three specialist classrooms, each room is well-appointed to a high standard, enabling teaching across every Key Stage.

Food and Nutrition is taught to all pupils in year 7 and year 8, and is an extremely popular option in year 9 and at GCSE level. At Key Stage 3 pupils develop a broad base of skills through practical, investigational and theoretical work. Year 7 focuses on developing pupils’ ability to make decisions and choices concerning the relationships between diet and health. This is further continued in year 8 where a more experimental and enquiring approach is adopted. In year 9 pupils are introduced to methods of study and topics encountered at GCSE. OCR Food Preparation and Nutrition is then offered at GCSE level for two years.

The department has a proud record of achievement in GCSE. In the last two years pupils achieved 100% A*/C grades at GCSE. Therefore, the successful candidate can look forward to teaching enthusiastic and intelligent pupils, as well as joining an exceptionally talented department.
