French is one of five modern languages taught at CLSG.  French is taught for one year (Y4) in the Preparatory Department and is an option in Year 7, when girls choose two languages from French, German, Spanish and Chinese.

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic, well qualified and highly committed graduate possessing excellent French language and literary skills, and the ability to teach French to A level is essential.  This is a fixed-term post  for January to August 2020.

The languages faculty is very well resourced with a wide variety of authentic and course-related materials, DVD, and reading material thanks to is a well-stocked language section in the school library. We have regular subscriptions to extra online resource material for both teacher and student use. Students are encouraged to use IT, particularly using their own iPads, for display, reinforcement of learning and homework and whole classes may be taken into a computer room.

Lessons are taught through the target language using the communicative approach. We place a great emphasis on promoting the students’ motivation and enjoyment in order to reach the highest possible standards. The faculty also believes that a strong grammatical foundation is essential to good communicative competence.

Results are excellent at GCSE and A level.  All language students follow the AQA French specification for GCSE and the Edexcel specification for A level.
