West Island School Website: http://www.wis.edu.hk
West Island School is a member of the English Schools Foundation. The School was established in 1991 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. As an international secondary school offering iGCSE and IB programmes, we occupy award winning buildings in the Western district of Hong Kong. We serve a stable and established community in the Pokfulam district, with over 1200 students on roll. Our school mission of strength from diversity reflects the considerable achievements of our learners from over 40 different nationalities. Our students progress to the universities of their choice because they achieve highly, are well equipped and are leaders of the future
Responsibilities
We are seeking a full time teacher of French who can also offer to teach some Spanish. The position will be a full-time two years renewable contract starting August 2018
French within the Languages Faculty
French is a thriving subject within the school with iGCSE groups and three IB groups spanning ab initio, Standard and Higher level. The popularity of the subject within the school is matched by the success of our students who attain above expectations and who achieve positive value added.
You will be teaching within a team of committed linguists who teach Spanish, French and Chinese. Your timetable will be mostly French, across the full age and ability range, including IB Standard and Higher level. You should also be able to teach Spanish to at least iGCSE.
We are currently writing our MYP curriculum as part of our whole school move to the programme and it would be desirable but not essential for you to have some experience or knowledge to bring to our teams.
All teachers at West Island School are tutors to a group of approximately 15 students within a particular year group.
Requirements
In addition to being a committed team player with the ability to contribute to the work of the French Department and Languages Faculty, the ideal candidate will have the following qualities:
A high level of proficiency in French language
Bachelor Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
At least three years teaching experience
The ability to teach French to both IB Standard and Higher Level (or equivalents)
Relevant recent teaching experience of GCSE, IGCSE (or equivalents)
Sound understanding of how to teach students with different learning needs
Experience of teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds
Willingness to embrace change
Excellent writing and speaking skills in English
