Job overview

‘It takes a whole community to bring up a child’ is not just a motto at Ark Boulton, it influences the way we support each other, our parents, students and other stakeholders.

Our teachers are the backbone of this community and are given the room to grow and develop in an encouraging, challenging and rewarding environment. As role-models they exemplify the virtues we strive to instil in our students, which include courage, self-discipline, commitment and honesty.

The Geography team is a hard working and committed team, teaching a range of human and physical geography topics across key stage 3 and 4, including local fieldwork opportunities. The department is supported by our Regional Network Lead for Geography through weekly subject specific professional development sessions and in school support.

Become a member of our school family and embrace multiple opportunities for personal and professional development, not just within the school, but from the internationally renowned Ark family of schools we are a part of. As a result, our staff can share best practice and receive training from some of the best educators in the country. Hear from our team.

In a typical day, teachers follow a set structure for lessons that students are accustomed to. This allows our teachers to make the most of the lesson time and manage behaviour with a standardised routine. In addition, weekly meetings and reviews provide time for staff to deepen their teaching knowledge and styles while developing strong, resilient and adaptive teams.

Our strapline ‘growing together, reaching higher’ applies as much to our staff as our students. We recognise that the health and wellbeing of our staff will affect that of our students. For this reason, we have invested in developing our wellbeing room and other initiatives to care for our whole school community.

If you are someone who understands the difference a great education can make to pupils lives, have a passion and belief in the potential of every student, and are excited at the prospect of growing as an educator, we look forward to hearing from you.

We are a secondary school in Sparkhill, Birmingham. Our mission is to provide a quality education that empowers all individuals to flourish and make a positive contribution to their community, culture and wider society.

Our vision for Ark Boulton Academy is simple: together we give each of our students the skills, personal qualities and qualifications they need to be successful at university and in the career of their choice; together we make them role models for future generations, helping them to fulfil their potential and raise aspirations; and that together we support our students to develop a lifelong love of learning, a sense of personal and civic pride and the confidence to not just navigate the modern world, but to shape it.

Our approach is summed up in the African proverb: “It takes a whole community to bring up a child”.

At Ark Boulton Academy we work together to ensure that each of our children can overcome barriers to learning, catch up where needed and achieve at the highest levels by working harder, behaving better and making faster progress than children in other schools.

We're also proud to offer a great environment for staff, where we help every member of staff to be their best through a supportive environment and excellent professional development.

Curriculum

We have a broad, academic curriculum, emphasising the importance of intellectual study and focusing on traditional learning. We believe that this is the best way to equip our students for university, and/or the professions and careers they eventually choose. In an ever-competitive global community we have provided an academic curriculum that gives our students the best possible chance to succeed whilst ensuring that they have the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and express themselves through expressive arts. The three main elements in the curriculum to address pupils’ are academic, personal and social development.
