We aim to be the best we can, in all that we do for our young people and to give them a high quality educational experience

Our curriculum provides a full range of subjects from Sl-S6. We aim to meet the needs of all our pupils, providing a curriculum that is appropriate in terms of breadth, depth and challenge. Our broad general education (BGE) incorporates pace, challenge and personalisation and choice, and this allows pupils to be ready to meet the demands of our senior phase curriculum, which has subjects ranging from National 2 level through to Advanced Higher. We also link with other East Lothian schools to provide opportunities for study across a wide range of other subjects and specialist academies.

Values and Vision

Knox Academy runs an asymmetrical school week, making it unusual compared to many other British schools. Monday to Thursday, pupils attend six periods a day finishing at 4pm, whilst on Fridays they only attend three periods, leaving school at midday. The school works hard to provide a diverse curriculum suitable for all pupils, taking great pride in its comprehensive ethos. Outside the classroom, the school runs its own “Children’s University” for younger students, with them taking part in trips and learning opportunities in conjunction with a local university.

Education Scotland Inspection

“The headteacher is successfully engaging with a range of partners in the local community, including businesses. These partnerships successfully enhance the curriculum and increase young people’s successes and achievements. As a result of the school’s increasing community links, young people are engaged in volunteering and develop their leadership skills through working with local organisations.”
