Teacher of Geography

Moor End Academy is a fantastic place to work, and the humanities team are forward-thinking and innovative. Our curriculum is driven by creativity; we believe that students learn best when they enjoy their lessons. At Key Stage 3, students are taught both geography and history as discreet subjects. As a subject we are working hard to produce engaging, exciting lessons that will give our students the best possible changes for the future. We believe that students should have a purpose for their learning and feel that they are doing something real and meaningful, with the aim of developing successful learners, confident individuals and global citizens.
The academy is accredited by the Edward de Bono Foundation as an official Centre for Creative and Critical Thinking and these skills are at the centre of our teaching. Students enjoy geography and they respond positively to our imaginative and stimulating approach. It is a great opportunity for you to come in with some creative, imaginative ideas to help lead and build on our current success. Outstanding departments are not static, and we are always looking to evolve; meaningfully contributing to curriculum design is the role of every student and member of the team. If students have not enjoyed and been motivated by a topic, then following student feedback changes are made to the curriculum. Learning outside the classroom is a big focus of geography and field trips provide an ideal opportunity to show our students real geography.
As a teacher of geography, a range of opportunities for personal and professional development will be open to you. You will be responsible for delivering quality learning both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to this, you will be involved in and, where appropriate, lead educational visits linked to the curriculum. You will have high expectations of yourself, the team and – most importantly – our students, and will provide opportunities for students to extend their enjoyment of geography in what is now a core subject at the school.
Moor End Academy is a fantastic place to work and geography plays an important part of this; we never stand still, constantly looking at ways to improve and offer our students the best learning experience we can. If you are a vibrant, hardworking, successful and creative individual who is not afraid to take risks, this is a very exciting opportunity and we’d love to hear from you!
The closing date for applications: 12th April 2021
Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Criminal Record Check via the DBS. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
