Required for November 2018, part-time Teacher of Geography (Maternity Cover) to join our highly successful Geography Department.

Camden is a successful and oversubscribed inner London comprehensive secondary school. We have been identified five times by government ministers as one of the top 100 schools in the country. The school has also been described as “outstanding” by Ofsted in March 2005 and again in December 2007.

Requirements

General Curriculum

To teach classes at all Key Stages within the department under the guidance of the Head of Department.

To prepare lessons, organise resources and provide a stimulating environment for students.

To undertake as appropriate a share of curriculum planning and departmental organisation under the guidance of the Head of Department.

To mark work, assess students and write profiles in line with departmental and school policies.

To attend parents evenings.

General

To identify students with particular learning needs and to discuss strategies for support with the Head of Department, and Head of Year, and Head of  S.E.N.

To attend department, pastoral, staff and other meetings and play a part in the consultative systems of the school.

To carry out duties (e.g. break duty) in line with school policies.

To cover lessons as required and, if circumstances allow, to provide cover for lessons when absent.

To become familiar with and abide by whole school policies.

To undertake other such duties as may arise under the direction of the Headteacher in accordance with the Conditions of Employment of Schoolteachers 1991.

Geography Curriculum

To contribute to displays of pupils work in the department areas, foyer, sixth form centre, school corridors and other agreed special exhibitions.

To undertake the safe storage of pupils work, including coursework and to ensure that work storage areas are cleared each year.

To provide information for School references and to assist students in the preparation for Further Education where appropriate.

To participate in the organisation and supervision of Geography day and residential trips.

To contribute to, and be aware of initiatives in Literacy, Numeracy, ICT, and GIS.

General duties

To maintain work areas in a tidy and organised state.

To alert HOD, Schoolkeeper, Head or Health and Safety Rep to any required maintenance or safety issue.

To take necessary steps to conserve and store materials and resources in order to avoid loss or damage.

Criteria selection:

-           good honours degree and teaching qualification in geography;

-           recent experience of geography teaching age 11 – 18;

-           a record of successful teaching or teaching practice;

-           a knowledge of recent changes to GCSE and A level syllabuses;

-           good communication skills;

-           awareness of trends and developments in Geography;

-           sympathy with the geography department vision, the aims and ethos of the school, and the school’s Equal Opportunities Policy   

-           an interest in, and awareness of, the value of fieldwork;

-           an interest and ability to help develop I.C.T. skills for all age groups;

-           an interest and ability to teach successfully physical geography including at A level.

About The Camden School for Girls

Located in Camden, north-west London, The Camden School for Girls is a single-sex secondary school, offering places to girls aged 11-18. With around 1,000 students, the school has an extremely diverse student intake, reflective of the local community.

First established as a grammar school in 1871, The Camden School for Girls later became a comprehensive. Although the school is girls-only in Years 7-11, the substantial sixth form is co-educational and accepts a large number of its students from other schools in the local area.
