Job overview

Northampton School for Girls (NSG) is an oversubscribed 11-18 all-girls academy, with 1700 pupils, 300 of whom are in our mixed gender sixth form. We are Ofsted rated “Outstanding” and have high levels of attainment across the board.

At NSG, we promote a sense of respect and inclusion, and have a focus on developing the whole child; these core values are at the heart of everything we do as a school. From the moment you step into our school you get the sense that there is a mutual understanding between the students and the members of staff.

Our overriding aim is to continue to be an “Outstanding” School with a focus on creating a strong, caring and inclusive learning environment for our students.

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography who can evidence strong subject knowledge and high quality teaching. We promote an ethos of respect and inclusion for all, and we expect you to have the same mindset.

If you are looking for a school that encourages high standards, has a focus on the development of the whole child, instils a level of respect in the students and will support your career development to help you achieve your potential, then Northampton School for Girls could be for you.

We aim to engage all students and make Geography relevant to their future careers and wider lives. The emphasis is placed on understanding processes, rather than recall of facts. In order to achieve this, our lessons are up to date, fast paced and participative. As far as possible, students are encouraged to ask questions and get involved in their own learning. We are fully committed to mixed ability teaching and differentiation must be subtle and nuanced.

Geography is a subject which is in the news daily, and this is very much reflected in all of our teaching. As such, our case studies change regularly, so the resourcing for them is fluent. We do not therefore have a ‘cupboard’ full of worksheets and activities, but rather, Schemes of Work focused on skills and themes, the detailed lesson content being created as close to the lesson as possible.

Closing date: Wednesday 28 February 2018.

Interview date: w/c 12 March 2018.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a criminal records check, via the Disclosure & Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by NSG.
