Job overview

Outwood Academy Valley is an outstanding school in the North of Nottinghamshire at the gateway to the famous Dukeries, including Clumber Park. Situated in Worksop, a vibrant town with a historic market centre and a mining heritage, we work closely with the town’s other secondary school, Outwood Academy Portland to raise standards and transform lives of the children in the community. In December 2007 the school was rebuilt to provide a state of the art learning environment with excellent facilities for learning.

Outwood Academy Valley is one of 22 secondary schools in Outwood Grange Academies Trust; where students love to learn and are motivated to achieve. Being part of the Trust means that all staff have access to excellent opportunities for professional development at all levels, with scope to build a career across a range of schools. Outwood Academy Valley achieved fantastic results with 83% achieving 4+ in English and Maths and 65% achieving 5+ in both subjects.

The Academy wishes to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic subject specialist who will engage with our ethos which places students first. The role will be principally teaching P.E. to female students. The P.E. Department achieved fantastic results this year for GCSE P.E. 83.9% 4+ and 74.2% 5+ and Sports Science Level 2 Merit of 89% and staff continue to work together to produce learning experiences of the highest quality.

You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. Your relentless drive will ensure our students gain the best possible outcomes. Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offers opportunities to access outstanding practice and resources to enhance the learning experience of our students.

As a member of the team we offer:

• The opportunity to work and progress across the family of schools.

• A minimum of two hours CPD per week for all staff.

• A full and detailed programme of support and development is available for NQTs.

• A further comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the Outwood Institute of Education.

We believe that all teaching and support staff posts at our Academy are key posts in terms of supporting student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences. As such, we are keen to recruit a dedicated and ambitious professional who will add value to our Academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In place of Academy based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

Understandably, visits to the school are not possible at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position, please contact Sam Scott, Business Manager 07593 139063 and we will be happy to assist.

Closing date: Midday on Wednesday, 10 June 2020.

Interview date: Friday, 12 June 2020.

We reserve the right to close advertisements early. Advertisements will therefore close at 12 noon, either on the advertised closing date, or the day the decision has been taken to close the advertisement early.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All offers of employment will be subject to enhanced DBS Checks.

We are an Ofsted Outstanding, 11-18 academy based in the large friendly town of Worksop, near Sheffield and Nottingham.

Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, we were rated Outstanding by Ofsted in 2017 and are among the top schools for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire for GCSE results, including English and Maths. We are committed to developing our staff and we are delighted that after its latest inspection, Ofsted noted that ‘the support provided for teachers’ development is strong and wide ranging.’

We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum, designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential. With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine.

We have won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

Although we are Outstanding, we are constantly looking to improve. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
