Believe in academic rigour and traditional values? Want a SLT who visibly support staff? Want to teach pupils who behave impeccably at all times?
Then you will be interested in our oversubscribed 11-16 school in the centre of Bedford, just 30 minutes from London. We are recruiting a part-time girls PE teacher.
RESPECT, HONESTY, HIGH EXPECTATIONS
At BFS our values drive everything that we do and as a result our teachers enjoy impeccable behaviour in lessons and hardworking, highly motivated students. Open for just 5 years, Bedford Free School is a genuinely comprehensive school that provides a knowledge-based education for students of all backgrounds. We teach an unashamedly academic curriculum consisting of the best that has been thought and said, and as you would expect, the character development of teamwork, leadership, resilience and challenge that comes from sport and PE are essential alongside this.
With waiting lists in each year group and GCSE results placing us amongst the top schools in the country, we have quickly become a hugely popular school locally. Demand for places is high as parents want the combination of a BFS education and our distinctive small school feel for their children.
We’re looking for people who want to be the best. You will be an excellent teacher and an inspiring character who is willing to lead by example, but will also contribute positively to wider school life. Most of all, you will be clear that education is a great leveler and work hard to help us achieve our goal of preparing every student to go to university.
There are four other colleagues in the department – the Head of PE, our Assistant Principal, our PE technician and another Girls’ PE teacher – and the department works in close partnership with the other departments. This opportunity arises because the current colleague teaching Girls’ PE (who is fantastic) is eager to go part-time for family reasons. We are effectively looking for a job share to start in September or as soon as possible, and the amount of teaching and particular days is negotiable.
SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
As a new member of staff you’ll be supported each step of the way. NQTs benefit from a bespoke programme of CPD, a reduced teaching load and a generous starting salary. For more experienced colleagues career development is made a priority - there will be opportunities to work on whole-school priorities and gain the experience required to progress into middle or senior leadership in due course. Additionally, we offer financial assistance for relevant post graduate study and support for middle leaders wishing to apply to become Specialist Leaders of Education. We have partnerships with a number of local training providers and with Inspiration Trust in Norfolk. You will be joining us at an exciting time – in addition to our newly completed £2m extension, a local primary school joined our multi academy trust in April 2017, and we will be opening our second brand new secondary school in nearby St Neots very soon. The growth of our MAT is sure to create exciting opportunities for our staff in the future.
There are no unwieldy and impossible marking policies, our pupils’ behaviour is impeccable supported by same-day whole-school sanctions where necessary, and Senior Leaders have a very high profile to ensure that you are supported to teach develop.
If our traditional approach and values of Respect, Honesty and High Expectations match yours, then we welcome visits to the school at any time and would encourage you to apply. For a confidential discussion about the position contact Esther Logan, PA to SLT, on 01234 332290 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange an appointment
Early applications are encouraged as we reserve the right to close this post should a suitable candidate apply.
We strongly advise a visit as this school is unlikely to be like anything you have ever seen!
