Teacher of History

Barton Peveril Sixth Form CollegeEastleigh, Hampshire

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational, motivated Teacher of History who will make the subject exciting and will stimulate students’ enthusiasm for their studies. Experience of teaching additional Humanities subjects, such as Politics, RS, Philosophy, or Classical Civilisation may also be beneficial.

Your focus will be on students achieving high grades in exams and on increasing the value added scores of the department. Your teaching must be of the highest quality and exam results should reflect the high calibre of your teaching. You must have a commitment to active and innovative teaching and learning, both inside and outside the classroom, including the embedded use of IT in your teaching. You will have the passion to be part of a successful teaching environment which produces the best from its students, and which also looks to prioritise the engagement of students in their own learning.

The department currently offers two subject options to students, both following the AQA syllabus. In Route A, students study ‘The Tudors: England 1485-1603’ alongside ‘Revolution and Dictatorship: Russia 1917-1953’. Route B covers ‘The quest for political stability: Germany 1871-1991’ and ‘The making of Modern Britain, 1951-2007’. The department has prepared some coursework material for Route A on ‘Civil Rights in the USA’, and ‘The Tudors’ for Route B, though students are also free to make their own choice of topic. This ensures that all students fulfil the 200-year requirement for A level History.

You will join a team of 9 full-time and part-time Humanities staff working in a spacious, well-resourced building. The focus of the team is very much on collaborative working, and on supporting one another to achieve the best results.

We would advise you that posts advertised to start in September 2021 actually commence with student enrolment on 31 August 2021. Teaching staff are required to work this day but should you have an existing commitment please make this clear on your application and we will honour it.

Please note that this role is likely to include online/remote teaching and learning.

We welcome applications from Newly Qualified Teachers.
