Job overview

Teacher of History & Ancient History (Classical Civilisation)

Temporary and part-time maternity cover (up to 1.0FTE – see below)

The current post holder teaches on both the A level History, Ancient History and Criminology/Law Level 2 programmes. Ability to teach on these courses is thus highly desirable and the potential to contribute to Criminology Level 2 would be advantageous. If this was possible, more hours would be available for the post holder. Experience of new linear A Levels and the specification being delivered is essential.

St Vincent College has a well-established A Level History and Ancient History programme which is an integral part of a friendly and supportive humanities team. A maternity cover teacher is required from January 2019.

As a college, we deliver outstanding teaching and learning to achieve the best outcomes possible for our learners. There are groups of enthusiastic first and second year students that will need focused support in the completion of both internal and external examinations at this key point in the year.  They follow the AQA History specification and focus on two key themes; The Age of the Crusades and The War of the Roses. The Ancient History course is OCR Classic Civilisations and the 3 examined areas include Greek Religion, The Imperial Image and the Age of the Hero.

There is a dedicated, well-resourced room and that has been extensively developed by the current history teacher and a cohesive Scheme of Learning. Many of the students in the learning area combine History with other Humanities and Social Science courses as part of their study programme.

If you are interested in applying for the above position, details about our College, further information and an application form are available on our website www.stvincent.ac.uk
