Job overview

  • Are you passionate about history, looking for an opportunity to focus on the subject you love?
  • Would you like to join a team of like-minded historians in a curriculum-focused teaching role?

If so, we want to hear from you!

ASPIRE, GROW, SUCCEED

We are looking for a passionate historian to teach History across all Key Stages. This is a real opportunity for the right individual to form part of a team committed to subject-specific curricular thinking.

We are developing our curriculum with ambitious aims: to secure, in the long-term, rich historical knowledge for all pupils, but also to move beyond simple manifestations of a ‘knowledge-rich curriculum’ to ensure that our curriculum is shaped by the academic discipline of History and develops students’ engagement with genuine historical argument. We want our curriculum to develop students as confident readers of academic texts and to allow them to build a secure chronological understanding and sense of period which will serve to contextualise their learning both across the school and beyond.

We aim to bring ‘real’ History to the forefront of everything we do as a department, from our pedagogy to our approach to CPD, and we are looking for an enthusiastic subject expert to join our team.

Applications are invited from experienced teachers and those seeking their first appointment. This post is available from September 2020 for an MPS/UPS teacher appointment. For a current year PGCE student there is the opportunity to start before the summer holidays. The successful post holder will be paid from the agreed start date.

To excel in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Be an inspirational teacher with a proven track record of success of teaching up to KS5
  • Embrace the current changes to the curriculum and drive up progress and outcomes
  • Have the ability to inspire, engage and enthuse students, staff and the wider community
  • Have a professional drive, energy, determination and aspiration
  • Collaborate and work with all staff across school to support further school improvement

In return, we can offer you:

  • A talented and committed staff team who are supportive of each other. This includes framework for staff voice and a fair workload charter to ensure wellbeing and a good work/life balance
  • A Headteacher, Leadership Team and Governing Body committed to creating a school of outstanding practice
  • The opportunity to grow in your teaching practice and work with young people in a truly comprehensive, multi-cultural community environment
  • Excellent professional development opportunities, including a subject specific CPD model which focuses on subject knowledge
  • Fantastic building resources and facilities

If you share our values and ambition, have a proven track record, and relish a new challenge, we look forward to receiving your application.

If you would like to apply, please download the Applicant Info Pack, which contains further details about the post, including how to apply. Alternatively, you can email recruitment@allertongrange.com for an application pack or telephone leaving your postal address.

Closing date: 26 April 2020.

Allerton Grange is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students, and expects all staff, Governors and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS and safeguarding recruitment checks.

We are also an equal opportunities employer and positively encourage applications from all suitably qualified candidates.

Allerton Grange is a large and rapidly improving school, where students of all backgrounds and abilities are happy and make positive progress. We currently have 1700 students, with an intake of 300 students each year in Year 7.

We have an impressive school building, with a newly opened Sixth Form Centre, housing our diverse community of 260 post-16 students. Allerton Grange is located 4 miles from Leeds City Centre in an attractive area of privately owned residential properties.

Our increasing success is due to our rigorous, knowledge-rich curriculum supported by four cornerstones: knowledge, literacy, aspirational enrichment and social mobility. We have high expectations of our students and they are keen to succeed. We give them every opportunity to know more, understand more, experience more and access more.

Every student is cared for as an individual; staff work relentlessly to ensure our students are safe, secure and happy. We have resourced provision for deaf and hearing impaired students. We also have a number of visually impaired students.

Our latest Ofsted inspection (February 2020) recognised the quality of provision we provide. They were particularly impressed by our curriculum and focus on staff wellbeing.

Ofsted quotes (February 2020)

“Staff feel valued and supported and proud to be working at Allerton Grange. They appreciate leaders’ efforts to make their workload manageable.”

At Allerton Grange, we challenge ourselves to continually improve and grow as a staff community. We welcome applications from motivated, knowledgeable people who align with our school ethos and strongly believe in social justice.
