Teacher of History
Start date 24 August 2018 (first teaching day 28 August 2018)
Ashby School is a thriving, successful and over-subscribed 14-19 Academy with 1,700 students on roll including 600 post-16. Conveniently located close to the M42 and M1, within easy reach of several areas of outstanding natural beauty and with the newly created national forest on the doorstep, the school is set in its own attractive grounds in the expanding market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. With an excellent reputation within the local community a recent Ofsted inspection found the school to be a ‘good school’ in all inspection categories.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and determined teacher with a passion for their subject and the ability to enthuse and engage students and the dedication, commitment and strategies to raise attainment at both Key Stages 4 and 5. This post is 0.6 (60 per cent) of full time hours.
The post offers an exceptional opportunity for an experienced practitioner, with a proven record of academic success, or a newly qualified teacher seeking an opportunity in a leading Academy focussed on ensuring that all students achieve or exceed their potential.
We offer an excellent Continued Professional Development programme within a supportive environment and are committed to continuous improvement in both teaching and learning.
Lessons in the History department are delivered in a suite of dedicated classrooms fully equiped with projection and surround sound systems and Apple TV connections. The faculty has a dedicated IT suite as well as class sets of laptops, tablets and iPads which are fully integrated into the school network. Each year the department undertakes foreign trips and visits and have recently travelled to New York, Washington, Ypres and Somme as well as local historical sites including Bosworth Battlefield.
Recently the school has made major investment in the latest technologies including a state of the art interactive 3-D learning hub, further enhancing understanding and promoting creativity in learning.
The successful candidate will join the faculty at an exciting time as we develop our provision and adapt to the challenges brought by new curricula at GCSE and A-level. We are proud of the work we do at Ashby School: if you are passionate about teaching and learning, share our enthusiasm for History and are seeking to develop your practice in a supportive and dynamic faculty, we would be delighted to hear from you.
