Teacher of Law and Psychology

Hours: 1.0 FTE

Maiden Erlegh School is a high-achieving, over-subscribed secondary school which is as committed to the welfare of students and staff, as it is our high standards. We are now looking for a Teacher of Law and Psychology to join our talented and committed department.

Our students are a delight to work with and relationships between students and staff are extremely positive and constructive. Students are keen to learn, curious, respectful, polite and fun. They rise to challenges positively and enthusiastically, and have high expectations of themselves. This is why they achieve such impressive academic and personal successes.

To succeed in post, you must have the following: 

• Have thorough knowledge of the AQA specification for Psychology/Law.
• A good understanding of (PSYCH: Research methods) (LAW: the UK legal system) and (PSYCH: the application of maths & Biology in topic areas).
• A willingness to keep up to date developments in the subject area (Law: be aware of any changes to statues, reform which may need to be incorporated into the curriculum) (PSYCH: up to date research findings of topics on the spec which can be used for evaluations).
• Develop key skills in the subject area.
• Scaffold, support students with a range of exam questions.
• Provide effective feedback with clear targets which support DIRT. To follow the school and departmental strategies on feedback and assessment
• Set supervised study work.
• Have a clear understanding of the needs of all KS5 students, including those which special educational needs; gifted and talented; EAL; disabilities; and be able to use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.
• An awareness of ways to raise student attainment in Psych/Law.

Professional development is a strength here, thanks to our Teaching School. We offer a flexible CPD programme which staff can tailor to their own needs which includes coaching and training for new entrants to the profession and to support career returners. We are very happy to discuss flexible working arrangements including part time working and job-sharing.
