The Learning Support Department is a very busy and diverse department with a full time Head of Department, one part time numeracy support teacher and two part-time curriculum support teachers. Together they form a highly committed, well-skilled team. Although the main role of Learning Support is to provide literacy support, numeracy support and curriculum support, the Department is proactive in raising achievement throughout the school.
Literacy Support is a structured programme for pupils who need additional help with literacy skills on entry to the Senior School in Year 9. Curriculum support is a one-to-one service where pupils have the benefit of individual help in any curriculum area they find difficult. Pupils attending curriculum support lessons are able to bring along any task where they want help. Many pupils adopt this pattern quickly, but less well-organised pupils require guidance and direction from their teacher.
The Literacy and Curriculum Support position reports to the Head of Learning Support and involves teaching a part-time timetable of about 13 lessons per week, but there is the potential for this to be more if this proves appealing.

Qualifications and Experience
- An Honours degree
- Some experience of learning support or of education would be advantageous
- The ability to assist pupils with science up to GCSE as well as literacy would be an advantage
- Preferably a SpLD qualification
Salary
To be paid according to the number of lessons taught per cycle.

Dean Close School is a co-educational day and boarding school which provides continuity of education from age 2+ to 18. The School was established in 1886, and is set in 50 acres of parkland in the centre of Cheltenham.
