Job overview

Teacher of Mathematics

Salary: MPS-UPS+Fringe

Start Date: January 2020

Closing Date: Midday Monday 14th October

(interviews Thursday 17th October)

We aim to develop world class students who have the belief in themselves that anything is possible. We want our students to be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone in the world and it is that sense of ambition that runs through the work of both staff and students at The Misbourne.  This is a good school with great students and talented staff, who are already seeing some success in our work toward this ambitious vision with excellent results in 2019.

We want each of our students to aspire to be the best they can be without any limitations and it is important to us that our teachers feel the same. If this sounds like you then please read on.

We want you to apply if you are hungry to grow and learn, have a keen interest in becoming the best teacher you can be, building effective relationships and transferring to students the same love for your subject that you yourself will have.

The successful candidate will be joining a well-led and well-resourced curriculum area. You will need to be able to teach up to and including Key Stage 4 and, as Maths is popular at A-level, the ability to teach A-level is desirable but not essential. Each teacher has their own classroom.

We place high importance on training and collaboration in what can often be a very fast-paced job. Taking time to reflect, evaluate and plan together is paramount. Therefore, all our curriculum areas have regular team meetings and the opportunity to develop their teaching and leadership, through an extensive internal CPDL programme personalised to meet their needs, and by following recognised NPQ, SLE programmes or off-site training of their own choosing where appropriate.

We place great importance in educational research and only implement what we feel will make the biggest difference to the lives and outcomes of our young people. As such we are seen as a key provider of initial teacher training in the local area and regularly share good practice across Buckinghamshire, through both the Astra and Canons Park Teaching School Alliances. We also work closely with our local Maths Hub.

Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. That’s important to us, if we are going to embody our vision and if you are our kind of teacher, it will be important to you too.

Our students and staff are keen to meet you and show off our fantastic school, so why not come and visit before you apply? This post would suit an NQT or a more experienced teacher and we very much welcome interested candidates to contact us to arrange an informal visit.

Please contact Hazel Baxter on 01273 729465 or email hazel.baxter@hays.com to arrange a tour or if you would like to receive an application pack.

The closing date for applications Midday Monday 14th October. We would consider an earlier start date for the right candidate.  Please email your application to: hazel.baxter@hays.com

As Headteacher it gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the trustees, staff and students to welcome you to The Misbourne. Thank you for showing an interest in working with us.

This is a good school where every student really does matter and where our team of professional and passionate staff works hard to instil the belief in each of them that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

We believe that there are three things that are important to working in a school. Firstly, the students. We are fortunate to have polite and respectful students with well-supported families who want to work hard and do well but for some, lack the self-belief to really achieve their full potential. Secondly, a supportive staff body and investment in continued professional development. Staff are happy to work here and are very rightly proud of their school. They are supported by a comprehensive training programme that takes into account individual roles as well as career progression and aspirations. We are linked to two teaching schools and take a lead role in delivering training sessions for trainees from across Buckinghamshire.

Thirdly, our facilities. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities across the curriculum including a new building for the Sixth Form, English department and school café; extensive playing fields; three new IT suites and brand-new multi-million pound sports centre including dance space and fitness suite (free to use for staff). We have recently transitioned to Google in preparation for Year 7 commencing blended learning using chromebooks from September 2023.We believe that there are no barriers to learning that cannot be overcome. We strive for educational excellence in every lesson, every day, through a climate of high expectations, which are actively promoted in all aspects of school life. The Misbourne provides a learning environment that allows all students to flourish through mutual respect, kindness and a strong desire to achieve.

Through inspiring teaching; excellent pastoral care and strong partnerships with families and the wider community, our students leave us with the qualifications, skills and values needed to lead happy and successful lives and we are looking for similarly dedicated and inspirational colleagues to join us.

This is such an exciting time for the school and we welcome applications from prospective employees who share our vision, values and aspirations for students.

If you would like to visit us and see for yourself, I would encourage you to make arrangements for a tour via the school office admin@themisbourne.co.uk. Staff and students are exceptionally proud of our school and we would love to show you around.

Mr Rich Peters (LL.B) Hons
