We are fully committed to continually developing our teaching at The Malling School. We have no formal lesson observations and a strong open culture of improving our teaching together through regular low stakes developmental learning walks. Our staff are encouraged and supported to improve themselves not prove themselves.
Our strategy to improve outcomes for our students is not through short term unsustainable Y11 intervention but through developing our curriculum together and continually reflecting and improving our daily practice in every classroom for every year group.
Our approach to behaviour management at The Malling School is ‘Strict, Consistent and Caring’. We insist on ‘disruption free classrooms’ in our school and where this is not demonstrated by any student, we use our successful behaviour management system. Low-level disruption is not tolerated allowing teachers to do what we do best, teach. All staff receive regular informal behaviour for learning training to ensure we are consistent in our application of the policy. Students are very clear around our high expectations of behaviour and attitude in every classroom. The key to the success of the policy is the proactive targeting of poor work ethic and low-level disruption by every teacher. Students that slow down the pace of learning are transferred out of the lesson and collected by our senior leaders.
The leadership team ensures that all our improvement strategies are clearly communicated to staff, effectively piloted, evaluated and well thought through. Our key principle when introducing any new initiative is to ensure that there is no unnecessary workload and that it has a high impact on student progress.
We are recruiting a teacher of Mathematics and this role is perfect for a candidate looking for new exciting, opportunities and development or someone looking to secure their first Maths NQT position for September.
This is a wonderful time to join the Mathematics department which is now moving into year 2 of it’s new overhauled curriculum. The Mathematics curriculum at The Malling School is based on three key concepts: ‘Manipulate, Master and Marvel’.
You will improve your knowledge of curriculum development, articulating rationale, sequencing topics, assessment, retrieval practice, creating a progression model, and resourcing and continue to develop your pedagogy and subject knowledge and have an impact on the whole-school learning of Mathematics.
The Mathematics department continues to enjoy it’s efficient marking, feedback and homework policies that maximize impact on pupil outcomes while respecting staff workload. Subject specific CPD and training is delivered within departments weekly with whole school teaching model training delivered in morning briefings. The Malling School Mathematics department has completed and continued projects with outstanding schools in Kent and London to inform and support our vision for an exceptional Mathematics curriculum.
