We are seeking a passionate and imaginative teacher to provide maternity cover in our highly successful Mathematics Department from February 2021.
The Mathematics Department consists of 8 full-time Mathematics teachers and 1 part-time teacher. Several teachers within the department are also involved in key areas for the school such as Support for Learning, the House System and Careers.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for Mathematics, an effective and inspirational teaching style, high standards of professionalism with a commitment to professional development, and a good knowledge of the Scottish Mathematics curriculum and a deep understanding of the development of mathematical learning. The department is at an exciting time in its development and you will be joining a vibrant team focused on continually improving the mathematical experience each pupil receives. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to teach pupils between the ages of 11 and 18, and should be willing to make a contribution to the rich extra-curricular life of the School.
The Mathematics Department has consistently achieved excellent results in national examinations. In 2020, the National 5 pass rate was 97%, with 78% at grade A; at Higher the pass rate was 93%, 68% at Grade A. At Advanced Higher, the pass rates in Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics were 93% (68% at A) and 89% (56% at A) and 92% (75% at A) respectively. Currently all pupils are presented for National 5 at the end of Fourth Year, with a large majority choosing to study Higher in Fifth Year. In Session 2020-21 uptake in Advanced Higher Mathematics (37), Advanced Higher Mechanics (6) and Advanced Higher Statistics (10) were amongst the popular choices in Sixth Year. In addition to exam success, pupils in the Mathematics Department participate in SMC and UKMT competitions, achieving success at individual and team level.
The salary for the post will take account of the qualifications and experience of the person appointed and there will be a High School allowance above the National Scale. The successful applicant may, if desired, participate in the Scottish Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme and the School will pay the employer’s contribution.
The appointment will begin on Monday 15 February 2021
Candidates must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
The appointment will be subject to a successful application to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
