Job Description

We are looking for a teacher of mathematics to teach across the age and ability range including MYP, iGCSE and potentially the IB diploma, to start in January 2023 at our brand new and contemporary 8-storey campus back at Borrett Road. 

Island School is a highly successful IB school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1200 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, IBCP, IBDP and BTEC programs. 

The Mathematics faculty enjoys a positive and collaborative working environment with excellent examination results. The main role of the mathematics teacher is to maximise student learning and development through the planning, preparation and teaching of programmes which meet students’ individual learning needs and achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers teach a range of student abilities and classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programmes. These range from MYP in Year 7 and 8, iGCSE in years 9 to 11 and the IB diploma in years 12 and 13. The classroom teacher engages in critical reflection in order to improve their knowledge and skills to better engage students and improve their learning.

We operate a 1 to 1 laptop program throughout the school and all teachers should be committed to making the most of these resources in the teaching of their subjects. Online learning, blended learning, and flipped learning styles are also promoted throughout the school and teachers are expected to promote these practices.

The successful candidate should have:

• A relevant degree and postgraduate teaching qualification
• At least two years experience in teaching Mathematics 
• A familiarity with IB MYP curriculum design processes and teaching methodologies
• The desire to embrace faculty-wide professional development models
• The ability to realise the potential of students of all learning needs
• A proven ability to integrate flipped, blended and other pedagogies into teaching & learning
• A commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school
• A commitment to pastoral care within the school
