Teacher of Mathematics
September 2018 start
MPS / UPS
Full time, permanent position
Although we would ideally want a September start, we recognise that this vacancy has arisen quite late in the summer term (close to the May resignation deadline) and will consider applications from candidates who would prefer a January 2019 start date.
We will consider applications from candidates who would prefer a part-time position.
Lincoln UTC is a unique learning environment. We are a 14 to 18 specialist college for science, technology, engineering and maths. Most visitors to the college assume (wrongly) that we are either a selective or a fee-paying private school. This misunderstanding initially stems from the stunning buildings we are fortunate enough to work in. Our Victorian, listed building at the front is reminiscent of Hogwarts. To the rear of the site, our state of the art laboratories and workshops are housed in an equally impressive, but totally contrasting, £9 million new build. The atmosphere within the college is just as impressive as the physical learning environment. Our students don’t wear uniform. They all (right down to year 10) wear business dress. They look like adults and they behave like adults. This is an unusually calm, purposeful and respectful learning community. You really need to come on a visit to fully appreciate how different this is from ordinary schools.
We are a very small learning community with just over 50 students in each of the four year groups (200 students) in total. Our class sizes tend to be smaller than average. All of our students have chosen to come here because they are interested in and want to specialise in science and engineering and maths. The maths results at the UTC are consistently, significantly higher than national average … for attainment and for progress, at KS4 and KS5. Last year, our A level maths cohort achieved 40% A*/A grades and 87% A*/C grades. In 2017 Lincoln UTC was the highest performing Post 16 provider in all of Lincolnshire (value added score for A Level +0.63, more than twice as high as the next closest school). Maths is a very popular subject here. In addition to our A Level maths students, a high proportion of the engineering students take maths (at AS or at A Level) alongside their Level 3 BTEC course.
The staff team are hardworking, friendly and supportive and totally committed to making a success of the UTC. It is a small staff team with only twenty teachers (four within the maths faculty).
The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record in teaching maths to KS4 and KS5.
If you would like to find out more about the college or about this position please contact the Principal, John Morrison, for an informal chat on 01522 775990. We would welcome (indeed encourage) visits to the college so that you can see for yourself what we have to offer. Equally, we understand that this is not always possible and we will not view applications from candidates who have not visited less favourably.
Completed application forms should be returned to email@example.com
Closing Date: Noon – Wednesday 23rd May 2018.
