Job overview

Teacher of Mathematics: Required April or September 2019

We are seeking to appoint a highly driven and inspirational teacher of Mathematics who would relish the opportunity to become part of our Mathematics department.  Our Mathematics department consists of a team of skilled and motivated practitioners, which makes the post suitable for a colleague at the start of their career.  However, more experienced colleagues seeking an opportunity to further their career should be interested as there may be additional responsibilities available for the right candidate. The post offers outstanding opportunities for continuous personal and professional development for an innovative and ambitious teacher looking for career advancement.

The Mathematics department is seeking a candidate with a drive for improvement as we look to build on our success over the last few years at both GCSE and A-Level. This summer, we achieved a Progress 8 score of 0 and an 11% increase in our Grade 5+ at GCSE, as well as 100% A*-C at A-Level.

The successful candidate will:

•Have Qualified Teacher Status

•Have the ability to teach Mathematics up to KS4 as a requirement (although we can offer the opportunity to teach A-Level Mathematics and/or the Level 3 Mathematics in Context specification)

•Be an outstanding classroom practitioner who can inspire and excite students about their learning

•Possess recent, relevant teaching experience

We can offer you:

•A vibrant and exciting place to work

•A large team of experienced colleagues including a Head of Department, two Lead Practitioners, two Key Stage Co-Ordinators and a Mathematical Mastery Specialist

•A full induction programme

•A laptop

•A departmental subject enhancement CPD programme

•An excellent CPD programme with opportunities for action research and gaining nationally accredited qualifications

•The support of a Trust that currently runs two secondary schools, primary school and nursery for children aged 3 months to 4 years

Cornwallis is a fully inclusive school, enabling all students to be the best they can be by having ‘ambitions for all’. In line with our ‘SMILE’ ethos, our aim is to motivate, inspire, excite and engage all students so that they can be successful.

We place students’ wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. A strong community ethos permeates, throughout the school, focusing on learning and progress as well as the whole child. Our popularity continues to grow with record student numbers at an all-time high.

Our aim is to ensure that all students achieve their full potential within a safe and nurturing environment. We also aim for all our students to develop as confident, courteous and capable young people.

We have an excellent team of teaching and support staff, who are committed to ensuring lessons are engaging and challenging. We offer support where support is needed and stretch and challenge each child to do the best they can. It is important for us to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to allow students to discover their interests.

We offer a number of prestigious scholarship programmes, in Art, Football (in partnership with Maidstone United Football Club) and Dance (in partnership with Maidstone Dance Studios).

We are also proud of the pastoral care we provide for our students and do everything in our power to make them feel valued and part of a community.
