Job overview

We would like to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Teacher of Mathematics to join a successful and committed team of professionals. The successful candidate will possess, or have the potential for, outstanding teaching skills and will be an asset to this core subject. Responsibility within the department is available for the right candidate.

St Joseph's is a successful over-subscribed and growing Catholic Secondary School in Slough within easy reach of both the M4/M40 motorways and on an excellent train line. It is well known in the area for being a great school to teach in and where the students are highly aspirational. We were judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in January 2016, the school was described as having a ‘deep seated conviction and moral purpose that all pupils have the right to an excellent education which drives a very positive culture in the school’. We are very proud to acknowledge a progress score (0.58 2017) that places us in the top 10% of schools nationally. We believe in professional development for the next stage in your career in exchange for hard work and a commitment to the children.

The Maths Department is a committed and supportive team and the importance of achieving well in the subject is clearly recognised by the pupils. The department boasts a track record of improvement and success (department Progress 8 score of 0.42 in 2017) and continues to build on this solid foundation.

The candidate should have knowledge of the Mathematics National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4 (Edexcel syllabus). Post 16 experience is desirable but not essential, we have a healthy A Level classes where our sixth formers study Edexcel A Level Mathematics. A warm, imaginative approach is required and the ability to maintain good classroom control. On-going formative assessment is very much a part of our practice and progress is regularly reviewed.

You are welcome to visit the school and have a tour at a time convenient to all.

About St Joseph's Catholic High School

St. Joseph’s Catholic High School prides itself on being a Catholic, listening and learning school. The students are at the heart of everything we do, and we challenge our staff to: Love the children and let them know that they are loved.

This love is present in the care, support, challenge and curriculum we deliver where we ASK (Attributes, Skills and Knowledge) our children to develop as learners and as people to transform the world by ‘Unlocking Belief in All.’

To support our staff in this mission we:

  • We work hard for the children and we care for each other like a family.
  • We have a behaviour system that lets teachers teach.
  • We treat teachers like surgeons with weekly CPD and training.
  • We have small class sizes and give teachers time to prepare.
  • All teachers are included in our reading and electives programme.

We are inspired by St Joseph, patron Saint of workers and a member of the Holy Family. We aim to create a place where children aren’t just loved but that they know they are loved. It is this ethos that enables our children to become academically successful. Here, all children are developed according to their ability and we make every effort to ensure that we reach out to all regardless of background.

You’ll experience a happy atmosphere at St. Joseph’s in which the dignity and worth of each pupil and member of staff is recognised, developed and safeguarded. Our school is recognised for its atmosphere of welcome where all feel at home in a sense of safety and security. Staff are willing to be present with the pupils in friendship and to go that one step further, where this is necessary, to meet the needs of young people.
