BELIEVE IN TRADITIONAL VALUES, ACADEMIC RIGOUR AND VERY HIGH EXPECTATIONS?

Want a SLT who visibly support staff? Want to teach and lead where pupils behave impeccably at all times?

Then you will be interested in our oversubscribed 11-16 school in the centre of Bedford. Whilst these are uncertain times we are still looking to recruit the very best staff for the next academic year and this post represents an exciting opportunity to join a talented and successful maths department.

RESPECT, HONESTY, HIGH EXPECTATIONS

At BFS our values drive everything that we do and as a result our teachers enjoy impeccable behaviour in lessons and hardworking, highly motivated students. Open for just 7 years, Bedford Free School is a genuinely comprehensive school that provides a knowledge-based education for students of all backgrounds. We teach an unashamedly academic curriculum consisting of the best that has been thought and said, and as you would expect, maths is at the heart of this.

PARENTAL CHOICE

With waiting lists in each year group and GCSE results placing us amongst the top schools locally, we have quickly become a hugely popular school. Demand for places is very high as parents want the combination of a BFS education and our distinctive small school feel for their children.

We’re looking for people who want to be the best. You will be excellent in the classroom and an inspiring character who is willing to lead by example, but will also contribute positively to wider school life. Most of all, you will be clear that education is a great leveler and work hard to help us achieve our goal of preparing every student to go to university.

THE DEPARTMENT

We have a curriculum that is written in advance by the Head of Department with support from the team. We have a fully staffed department, and we always recruit subject-specialists. You will therefore be working with a team of subject-specialists.

The department at Bedford Free School is housed in 4 dedicated classrooms, each equipped with interactive whiteboards, projectors, and mathematics equipment. Mathematics teachers have a maximum of 5 classes and have a departmental office which provides a quiet working space and the opportunity for the close-knit team to come together regularly.

SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT

Career development is a priority - there will be opportunities to work on whole school priorities and gain the experience required to progress into senior leadership in due course. Additionally, we offer financial assistance for relevant post graduate study and support for middle leaders wishing to apply to become Specialist Leaders of Education. We have partnerships with a number of local training providers, the Institute for Teaching, and with Inspiration Trust in Norfolk. You will be joining us at an exciting time – our multi-academy trust will expand soon, and is sure to create exciting opportunities for our staff in the future.

There are no unwieldy and impossible marking policies, no written reports, our pupils’ behaviour is impeccable supported by same-day whole-school sanctions where necessary - delivered centrally so teachers are not chasing, and Senior Leaders have a very high profile to ensure that you are supported to develop.

If our traditional approach and values of Respect, Honesty and High Expectations match yours, then we would encourage you to apply. For a confidential discussion about the position contact Esther Logan, PA to the Principal on 07594 249851 or by email on elogan@bedfordfreeschool.co.uk to arrange an appointment.

Early applications are encouraged as we reserve the right to close this post should a suitable candidate apply.

BFS opened in September 2012 and is now heavily oversubscribed, reflecting our established popularity and reputation with local parents. We have now celebrated three sets of solid GCSE results that put us top in Bedford and amongst the best in the region. In the coming years we aim to become one of the top performing schools in the country and as we continue to develop, we are looking to recruit excellent teachers who share our values and beliefs. We now wish to appoint more outstanding professionals to join our team.

Our staff will:-

  • share our values of respect, honesty and high expectations
  • believe that every student, regardless of background  is capable of the highest level of behaviour and academic success
  • be expert in their subject

In return we offer well-motivated, polite and hard working pupils and the opportunity to join an exciting school as it begins its next phase of development. We believe in 'growing our own' staff and as such, there are always opportunities for further training and career progression. We have a reasonable approach to workload with our 'no marking' feedback policy, no requirement for formal lesson plans, and a large amount of professional autonomy.
