Job overview

About the role:  The Leigh Academy are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Maths to join their highly successful faculty for January 2018 on a fixed term basis until the end of the academic year in the first instance, on either a full or part time basis. Our teaching staff in the department come with a very high level of combined experience and knowledge and in Summer 2016, we received our best Maths results in the history of the Academy and continued to do well in 2017. Being the founding Academy of the Leigh Academies Trust, we provide candidates with excellent career opportunities for those who have ambition and drive. We are seeking to appoint an individual who can build a rapport with our students and engage them in the subject.

What we expect of you:  We will expect you to successfully plan and deliver outstanding Maths lessons on a daily basis that both challenge our students and significantly advance their learning.  We anticipate you will achieve this by being passionate about your subject and transferring your knowledge in a creative and efficient way in the classroom.

As part of Leigh Academies Trust you will also be expected to collaborate with your peers both within the academy and across the whole Trust.  This is an important part of our vision as we know through experience that we perform better when we work together.  You will also be expected to undertake regular self development to continue your professional development and hopefully progress further within the organisation.

We want you to be relentless in your pursuit of progress for each and every one of your students so that they can achieve the outcomes they deserve and grow into young adults that will positively contribute to their communities.  Part of this is instilling pride in the work they do and encouraging their individuality and personality whilst respecting others.

Working for the Academy:  The Leigh Academy is a secondary school at the heart of the community and our small school model ensures that each and every student gets the personal support and challenge they need to reach their full potential. Overall the academy is a dynamic and exciting place to work and the fantastic leadership team are committed to making it a great place to work for staff at all stages of their career.  Our award winning building and facilities are modern, light and airy and the open learning terraces and classrooms built around a daylit wintergarden give the academy a unique and special character.

The purpose built Academy has the most up-to-date, technologically advanced facilities available. It is divided into four Colleges each containing 400 students aged 11-18 taught by their own staff. Our dedicated and energetic staff make a real difference to the lives of our students. We believe that these smaller schools within the Academy develop deeper relationships and lay stronger foundations for learning which underpin outstanding achievement.

The principles that have taken us on our exciting journey remain: namely, a passion for learning; a commitment to trying new ways to inspire and motivate young minds; and a dedication to helping each student fulfil their potential by encouraging them to explore all that life has to offer. Everyone who visits us is impressed by our students, the working atmosphere, the sheer sense of enjoyment in the learning process and the strong focus on achievement.

What are we looking for in you?  To be successful you need to be a qualified teacher who is passionate and knowledgeable about your subject and possesses the ability to teach consistently at an outstanding level. Whether you are at the start of your career or an expert teacher we focus on what attributes you will bring to the academy and most importantly what impact you will have on our students.  As a Trust we feel it is important to hire for the right attitude which is why we look for teachers that are enthusiastic, focused and resilient to the day to day pressures that teaching brings.

Diversity at our core:  As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.
