Job overview

Teacher of Maths

Thank you for expressing an interest in the post of Teacher of Maths. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed professional, holding Qualified Teacher Status, to join the team.

The Milton Keynes Academy (MKA) is an Academy with strong links in the community. Our Academy is underpinned by an ethos based on raising aspirations, raising achievement and providing opportunities, so that we realise our mission of Everyone Achieves.

We are a rapidly improving Academy (Ofsted judgement Good with Outstanding Leadership and Management April 2014).  We cater for 1400 students aged 11-19.  Our aim is to maximise the potential of all our learners and be at the heart of the community.

You will be joining an innovative and forward thinking mathematics department with strong links to the Enigma Mathematics Hub. We follow a Mastery curriculum inspired by excellent theory and practices seen in the 2015/16 National England-China Secondary Mathematics Project in Shanghai. The Vice Principal responsible for mathematics is a Teaching for Mastery specialist working with the NCETM to provide professional development opportunities for teachers in the region.

As a member of the department you will be involved in regular Teacher Research Groups to develop lessons based around high quality resources including manipulatives and purpose made presentations. We pride ourselves in working collaboratively to raise achievement whilst maintaining the important work life balance.

The mathematics department is housed in the Aspire Village where all classrooms have an Interactive White Board, desktop computer and a visualiser enabling you to deliver engaging lessons.  Outside of the classrooms we have a computer suite that can also be utilised.  Furthermore, you will benefit from a highly organised curriculum plan where all lessons are planned and stored on the Academy's online curriculum, Moodle.

You will be joining a department of 12 teachers with a range of skills and abilities, managed by a Vice Principal and Head of Mathematics who are supported by three Key Stage Co-ordinators and a Curriculum Assistant.  From the moment you join us you will feel welcomed and supported by an experienced and varied team.  As part of your induction into the Academy and the mathematics department you will be assigned a mentor who will support and guide you through your early days.
