Job overview

Outwood Academy Bydales seeks applications from outstanding applicants with integrity, imagination and energy for this rewarding role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for enthusiastic, driven professionals to join our Family of Schools. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’. Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals.

The Outwood Grange Family of Schools offers:

  • The opportunity, should you choose, to work and progress across the Family of Schools.
  • A full and detailed programme of support and development for NQTs and a comprehensive programme of professional development is provided through the Outwood Institute of Education (formerly the teaching school).

We believe that all teaching and support staff posts within our Family of Schools are key posts in terms of supporting student success and achievement across a broad range of subjects and experiences. As such we are keen to recruit dedicated and ambitious professionals who will add value to our Academy in academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom.

The predecessor Bydales School was judged by Ofsted in 2013 to require special measures and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust in September 2014. Since then the school has rapidly transformed and 2017 we achieved outstanding results of 85% 4+ and 75% 5+in English and Maths, beating the previous school record in 2012 by 25%, when it was judged outstanding by Ofsted. 90% of students achieved 4+ in Maths and 83% achieved 5+.

In January 2018 the school was identified as being in the top 2% nationally in Maths for progress with a score of +1.1. This means that on average, every student achieved over 1 grade above the grade they would be expected to attain nationally. Attainment in Maths was on average 1.5 grades above the national average. Disadvantaged students were in the top 4% nationally for progress and 0.9 grades above all students nationally.

The Outwood Grange Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

Interim Chief Executive Officer - Lee Wilson

Principal: Rob McGreal

We are an Outstanding, 11-16 academy based in the picturesque coastal village of Marske-by-the-Sea, close to the stunning North York Moors National Park. We have been part of the Outwood family of schools since 2014.

Since joining the Outwood Family, we have gone from strength to strength and we have seen improvement across all areas of school life. We believe in a collaborative approach, where we all support each other, staff and students, to achieve. During Ofsted’s last inspection, we were proud when the inspectors noted that the school’s ‘leaders are ambitious’ and ‘have high expectations of each other, staff and pupils.’ These expectations are the foundations of a true, supportive and collaborative approach.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Bydales is rated Outstanding by Ofsted and in its latest report, Ofsted noted that ‘staff morale is extremely high’ at the academy and that with help from other members of the Outwood Family, we provide our staff with a varied training programme.

We have also won numerous awards as a school and we have been accredited with the prestigious IQM Award, which highlights that inclusion at all levels is of paramount importance to us. We are also proud to have been awarded Silver Status by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health Award.

We have achieved our success while fostering a hard-working school community that is welcoming and friendly, allowing students and staff to make excellent progress together.

Put simply, we know our remarkable achievements would not have been possible without the fantastic efforts from our colleagues. Help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
